Municipio 9

Municipio 9 is an administrative division in northern Milan that encompasses several distinct districts. It includes areas such as Affori, Bicocca, Bovisa, Niguarda, and Porta Garibaldi, which together form a diverse urban composition with different characteristics.

The district developed from industrial areas that underwent transformation starting in the 1970s, particularly in the Bicocca neighborhood where former Pirelli factories were repurposed. This conversion into educational and cultural centers fundamentally reshaped the region's character.

The Teatro degli Arcimboldi in the Bicocca district serves as a major cultural venue that temporarily hosted La Scala's performances during restoration work. The theater shows how local institutions can play a role beyond their immediate neighborhood.

The Porta Garibaldi railway station connects the district with Milan's metro system and suburban rail lines for convenient transportation. The various neighborhoods are well accessible, making it easy for visitors to explore different areas.

A network of green spaces including the Library of Trees and Northern Park shapes the character of the area and provides visitors with natural retreats. These parks are woven into the urban fabric and create places for recreation within the city.
