Chiesa di San Marco, Renaissance church in Upper Town, Bergamo, Italy
The San Marco church features a marble facade with two architectural orders, Doric columns on the lower level and Ionic elements above.
Construction of the church began in 1572 as part of the Ospedale Maggiore complex, with architect Pietro Isabello leading the design process.
Carlo Innocenzo Carloni created interior frescoes in 1747, decorating the walls and vault of the single-nave church with religious themes.
The church stands on a small square paved with river stones and Zandobbio marble stripes, near other historical buildings in Upper Bergamo.
The church initially served exclusively for funeral services before expanding its role to include regular liturgical celebrations.
