Ibusuki, Thermal beach resort in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan

Ibusuki is a coastal city in Kagoshima Prefecture that stretches along Kinko Bay with views of Mount Kaimon. The city features natural hot springs that rise directly from the beach, giving the region its signature thermal bath character.

The settlement was founded in 1889 during the Meiji Restoration and maintained its original structure for many years. In 2006, Ibusuki gained city status through administrative reorganization.

The name Ibusuki comes from the hot springs that have shaped daily life here for centuries. Visitors notice reminders of these thermal waters throughout the city, influencing how the waterfront is used and experienced today.

The city is easiest to reach by direct trains from Kagoshima Chuo Station on the Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line. The journey takes about an hour and offers nice views of the bay and mountains along the way.

The famous sand baths at Saraku beach are heated by underground hot springs. Visitors lie in warm sand directly on the shore and experience a natural heat therapy found in few other places worldwide.
