Seto, Ceramic manufacturing city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Located 20 kilometers northeast of Nagoya, Seto stretches along its namesake river with numerous pottery workshops and ceramic factories distributed across the hilly landscape.

During the Kamakura Period in 1242, craftsman Toshiro Kato established his first kiln in Seto after discovering high-quality clay deposits in the northern hills.

The term 'setomono' became the standard Japanese word for ceramics due to the profound influence of Seto's pottery production throughout the centuries.

Visitors can reach Seto by taking the Meitetsu Seto Line from Sakae station in central Nagoya, with the journey lasting approximately 38 minutes.

The Maneki Neko Museum displays the largest collection of beckoning cat figurines in Japan, with thousands of specimens from different eras and styles.
