Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū

The shrine extends along a pathway marked by three towering red torii gates, leading to a main sanctuary positioned atop stone stairs.

Minamoto no Yoriyoshi established the shrine in 1063, and Minamoto no Yoritomo relocated it to its current location when declaring Kamakura as capital in 1180.

The shrine complex features two ponds that represent the Minamoto and Taira clans, with specific numbers of islands reflecting Japanese numerical symbolism.

Visitors can access the shrine daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM between April and September, with adjusted hours starting at 6:00 AM from October to March.

The shrine grounds include a peony garden that displays winter-blooming flowers, a rare occurrence in Japanese gardens.
