Kakuon-ji

Established in 1218 by Hōjō Yoshitoki and Hōjō Sadatoki, the temple played a central role during the Kamakura period as a religious institution.

The temple maintains its designation as one of the Thirteen Buddhist Sites of Kamakura, hosting regular ceremonies and meditation sessions for practitioners.

Visitors can reach the temple by taking a 15-minute walk from Kamakura Station, following the marked paths through the residential area.

The temple grounds contain several Important Cultural Properties of Japan, including statues and architectural elements dating back to the 13th century.
