Tottori Prefecture, Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast, Chugoku region, Japan.

The prefecture covers 3,507 square kilometers of coastal and mountainous terrain, featuring expansive sand dunes at Tottori and the peak of Mount Daisen.

The region takes its name from ancient inhabitants who caught waterfowl, first recorded in historical documents during Emperor Suinin's reign in 213 AD.

The annual Shan-shan festival fills the streets with dancers carrying decorated umbrellas while performing traditional routines to local folk music.

Tottori Prefecture maintains transportation links through multiple railways, an airport, and Sakaiminato Port, connecting to major cities across western Japan.

The prefecture holds the distinction of being Japan's least populated administrative region, with 538,525 residents recorded in 2023.
