All Japan Kendo Federation, Japanese federation of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo
The All Japan Kendo Federation is the national governing body for kendo and related arts such as iaido and jodo in Japan. Its main office is located in the Kudan district of Tokyo near Yasukuni Shrine and was reorganized as a public interest foundation in 2020.
The federation was established in 1954 following the revival of kendo after World War II. It joined the International Kendo Federation in 1970 and helped spread kendo worldwide as a consistent discipline.
The organization preserves samurai combat traditions in the modern world. Visitors can observe how respect, discipline, and personal growth are lived out in every training session and competition.
The office is housed in a quiet building in the Kudan district and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should note that kendo equipment cannot be purchased directly on-site but is available through the federation's online shop.
The All Japan Kendo Championship is considered more prestigious than world championships and is viewed by practitioners worldwide as the most important tournament. Additionally, the federation organizes free open training sessions such as the Kendo Godo Keiko-kai where anyone can attend without charge.
