Bunka Fashion College is a specialized fashion school in Shibuya-ku, Japan, focusing on practical training in design, garment construction and business. The institution occupies a 20-story building that houses workshops, research laboratories and technical facilities for textile and clothing production.
The school began as Namiki Dressmaking School in 1919 and became Japan's first officially recognized dressmaking institution in 1923. Over the following decades, it evolved into one of the leading fashion education centers and has trained around 300,000 graduates since its foundation.
The college launched So-en, the first fashion magazine in Japan, in 1936, marking a shift in the country's approach to fashion education and industry.
