Kashiwara

Kashiwara is a city in Osaka Prefecture that spreads between the Yamato River and the Ikoma Mountains. The city area includes residential districts, fields, and hills where several old burial mounds from earlier times stand and shape the terrain.

A village was founded here in 1889 and later elevated to a town in 1915, before becoming a city after the war. The area was already inhabited during the Kofun period, when residents built numerous burial mounds that survive to this day.

The city museum holds finds from the Jōmon era and displays items such as stone tools and clay vessels unearthed in the surrounding area. Visitors can trace how people lived here thousands of years ago and gain insight into the traditions of early settlers who used and shaped this region.

The place sits around 20 kilometers from central Osaka and can be easily reached by regional trains that connect different districts. A visit is especially worthwhile between August and October, when the grape center opens for wine tastings and grape sampling.

The surrounding area has long been known for growing Kawachi grapes, which are considered a local variety and are processed in many households across the region. Local winemakers supply markets throughout Osaka and maintain a tradition that reaches back to earlier generations.
