Ashiya, Residential city in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan

Located between the Rokko Mountains and Osaka Bay, Ashiya spans 53 square kilometers with a population density of 5,000 people per square kilometer.

The region gained prominence during the Heian period from 794 to 1185 when Japanese nobles and literary figures established residences in the area.

The Hanshinkan Modernism movement influenced the architectural development of Ashiya in the early 1900s, leading to construction of large single-family residences.

The city connects to Kobe and Osaka through railway lines and highways, making it an ideal location for professionals working in these metropolitan areas.

In 1945, Ashiya implemented regulations prohibiting pachinko parlors, gambling facilities, rooftop advertisements, and flashing lights, maintaining these restrictions to present day.
