Yabakei, Geological formation in Nakatsu, Japan
The Yabakei Valley extends over 32 kilometers along the Yamakuni River, featuring natural rock formations, cliffs, caves, and clear water streams.
The erosion process of the Yamakuni River has carved this valley through a lava plateau for more than 2.5 million years, creating distinct geological formations.
The valley contains 66 different scenic locations divided into six areas: Hon-Yabakei, Shin-Yabakei, Ura-Yabakei, Oku-Yabakei, Shii-Yabakei, and Tsutami-Yabakei.
Visitors can reach the valley by taking a 90-minute bus ride from JR Nippo Main Line Nakatsu Station, with tourist information available in English, Chinese, and Korean.
The Hitome Hakkei viewpoint presents eight different panoramic views of the surrounding rock formations, including Mount Gunen and Mount Tobinosu.
