Numazu Station, Railway station in Numazu, Japan.
Numazu Station is a railway hub in Numazu city, Shizuoka Prefecture, where several lines meet and travelers change trains toward Tokyo or along the coast. The platforms sit at ground level on three island sections linked by a pedestrian bridge and an underground walkway.
Operations began in February 1889 as part of the Tokaido Main Line expansion through the region. After fires destroyed earlier structures in 1913 and 1926, the current building rose in 1953 and has shaped the city center ever since.
The covered shopping arcade nearby opens early each morning and stays busy with commuters picking up snacks and daily essentials before work. Local vendors arrange their displays facing the entrance to catch travelers between trains.
The journey from Tokyo takes about an hour and a half, and travelers will find ticket machines and staffed counters inside the building for questions. Those continuing to the Izu Peninsula should allow extra time for transfers, as connections use different platforms.
Beyond passenger service, the grounds include freight yards operated by a separate railway company. Sidings and loading docks stretch behind the platforms, linking the city to the nationwide cargo network.
