Tobata-ku, Administrative ward in Kitakyushu, Japan

Tobata-ku is an administrative ward in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, located on Kyushu's northwestern coast. The district covers a relatively compact area and is served by rail connections linking it to the rest of the city.

The area grew from a small town into a significant port and industrial center during the early 1900s. Its incorporation into Kitakyushu in 1963 marked a shift in its role as part of a larger metropolitan area.

The Tobata Gion festival takes place annually in this ward and shows how residents maintain local traditions through celebration. The event brings the community together and shapes the cultural rhythm of the district.

The ward is well connected by two JR railway stations that serve the area. It is best explored by train or on foot, especially when visiting local festivals and the waterfront areas.

One of the region's most notable structures is the Waka-To bridge, completed in 1963. This suspension bridge was the first of its kind built anywhere in Asia and stands as a mark of postwar engineering achievement.
