Oyama Station, Railway interchange station in Oyama, Japan
Oyama Station is a large railway station in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, where regional trains and high-speed trains stop. The eleven tracks are spread across several platforms, which are connected by stairs, escalators, and elevators that allow passengers to transfer between different lines.
Operations began on July 16, 1885, making this one of the oldest active railway stations in the prefecture. Over the decades, new lines were added, and the facility was expanded several times to accommodate the growing number of travelers.
This hub serves as the first stop for many people in the region heading to work or other destinations in the greater Tokyo area. Commuters and travelers use the connections in several directions, giving the station an important role in the daily rhythm of the surrounding area.
The entrance is located at 3-3-22 Shiroyamacho, and signage inside the building is in Japanese with some English. Those transferring between lines should allow extra time, as the platforms are on different levels and walkways can be longer than expected.
The platform numbering does not follow a continuous sequence and deliberately skips certain digits, which sometimes confuses visitors. These gaps in the numbering arose during earlier renovations and were never adjusted to a uniform system.
