Takasaki Station, Railway interchange station in Takasaki, Japan
The station sits in the center of Takasaki and connects the Hokuriku Shinkansen line with several regional routes through Gunma Prefecture. The facility includes platforms on different levels, with high-speed trains stopping on elevated tracks and local trains departing from ground-floor platforms.
Operations began in 1884 under the management of the private Nippon Railway Company. After nationalization in 1906, the facility gradually expanded and later gained connection to the Shinkansen network.
The name comes from the city of Takasaki, once known as an important stop on historic trade routes. Visitors find small shops inside the building selling local Daruma dolls, a traditional good luck symbol from the region.
Signs in Japanese and English help with orientation between the different platforms and exits. Travelers with heavy luggage will find elevators connecting all levels of the facility.
The facility underwent several reconstructions, with each structural change reinforcing the separation between high-speed and regional traffic. Today, travelers use completely separate platform areas depending on train type, connected by vertical circulation routes.
