Kizugawa, Municipal center in southern Kyoto Prefecture, Japan

Kizugawa extends across 85 square kilometers of plains formed along the curving Kizugawa River, with gentle hills and mountains in the north and southeast.

Between 740 and 744, the Kuni-kyo imperial capital of Japan was established in what now forms the Kamo neighborhood of Kizugawa city.

The temples of Gansen-ji, Joruri-ji, and Kaijyusen-ji contain national treasures and stand as testimonies of Japanese religious architecture through centuries.

The city connects to major urban centers through railway networks, with trains reaching Nara in 15 minutes and both Osaka and Kyoto within 45 minutes.

Kizugawa functions as part of the Kansai Science City, hosting research facilities for 20 enterprises and institutions including the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.
