Uwanabe Kofun, Imperial burial mound in Nara, Japan

Uwanabe Kofun is an ancient keyhole-shaped burial mound located in Nara. The site consists of a larger rectangular section joined to a circular section, with a moat encircling the entire structure to define its boundaries.

This burial mound was constructed during the 5th century and belongs to a cluster of ancient tombs in the region. It is believed to be associated with a high-ranking member of the imperial court from that era.

This burial mound shows how ancient people honored their dead and the importance they held in society. The elaborate construction reflects beliefs about the afterlife and how communities expressed respect through monumental architecture.

The site is easily accessible by public train and requires only a short walk from the nearest station to reach the grounds. The best time to visit is during mild weather conditions, allowing you to explore the entire area without rushing.

The site was subject to a rare scientific survey in 2020 involving multiple government agencies and researchers. This modern investigation revealed new information about the mound and its importance in ancient times.
