Hikarigaoka Station, Underground metro station in Nerima, Japan
Hikarigaoka Station is an underground terminal metro station on the Toei Oedo Line, located in the Hikarigaoka district of Nerima, Tokyo. It has an island platform with two tracks running side by side beneath a large residential neighborhood.
The station opened in December 1991 as the terminal of the Toei Oedo Line, operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation. The land above it was previously a US military base used after World War II, which shaped the planned layout of the whole neighborhood.
The station sits next to the Hikarigaoka IMA shopping center, which draws steady foot traffic from the surrounding residential towers. Stepping outside, visitors immediately notice the open layout of the neighborhood, designed around wide pedestrian paths rather than busy roads.
The station has five exits labeled A1 to A5, each pointing toward a different part of the neighborhood such as the park or the residential blocks. Because it is a terminal station, trains are always waiting at the platform when you arrive, so there is no need to rush.
Although the Toei Oedo Line is shaped like a loop, this station sits at the end of a separate branch that splits off from the main ring, making it a true dead-end point within a circular line. This layout means trains here do not continue around the loop but simply reverse direction.
