Itoigawa Station, Railway junction station in Itoigawa, Japan.
Itoigawa Station is a railway junction in Itoigawa city, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, with six platform faces arranged on elevated levels. Two side platforms serve the Hokuriku Shinkansen high-speed trains, while separate tracks accommodate regional services.
The station opened on December 16, 1912, initially connecting local rail lines along the coast. Following the privatization of Japanese National Railways in 1987, management passed to West Japan Railway Company.
The terminal houses a GeoPal center with exhibitions about the local UNESCO Global Geopark and displays mineral collections from the region. Visitors can learn about the geological features of the surrounding mountains and coast through the exhibits.
Three main rail lines converge here: the Hokuriku Shinkansen, Nihonkai Hisui Line, and Oito Line, with connections to Tokyo taking around two hours. Travelers can transfer between high-speed and regional trains on different levels of the facility.
The waiting area contains a converted railway carriage that serves as a seating space. An indoor climbing wall offers travelers an unusual activity during longer layovers.
