Minamiaso, Rural village in Aso District, Japan

Minamiaso spans across 137 square kilometers within the southern portion of the Aso Caldera, between volcanic peaks and forested mountains.

The merger of three separate villages, Choyo, Hakusui, and Kugino, in February 2005 formed the current administrative structure of Minamiaso.

Agricultural practices in Minamiaso focus on cattle raising and crop cultivation, supported by the fertile volcanic soil of the Aso region.

Visitors reach Minamiaso via the JR Kyushu Hohi Main Line to Tateno Station or by car through National Routes 57 and 325.

The Shirakawa River system in Minamiaso contains ten natural water sources recognized among the 100 finest waters of Japan.
