Aso district

The Aso district spans 703 square kilometers across Kumamoto Prefecture, containing six municipalities including Minamioguni, Oguni, Takamori, Minamiaso, Nishihara, and Ubuyama.

The district underwent significant administrative changes in 2005 when several towns merged, including the formation of Minamiaso village through the consolidation of Choyo, Hakusui, and Kugino.
