Senri-chuo Station, Railway station in Toyonaka, Japan.
Senri-chuo Station is a railway station in Toyonaka, Japan, that combines underground platforms for the Namboku Line with elevated tracks serving the Osaka Monorail. This two-level facility includes a total of four platform tracks serving different destinations and covering a wide catchment area.
The underground section opened in September 1970 as part of the metro network expansion in the region. Twenty years later, in June 1990, the elevated monorail service was added, creating the present-day transport hub.
The complex connects directly to shopping centers such as Hankyu Oasis and Senchu Pal, where local residents buy groceries or meet friends after work. This physical link between transport and retail shapes daily life in the area and makes the station more than just a transit point.
Travelers should note that the two systems occupy separate levels and require distinct transfers. Peak hours in the morning and evening bring high passenger density, so traveling outside these times is recommended for a calmer experience.
The station serves as a terminal point for the Namboku Line underground while functioning as a through station for the Osaka Monorail on the upper level. This dual role as both terminus and intermediate stop is uncommon in the region and reflects the different roles each transit system plays in the network.
