Fukuchiyama, Castle town in northern Kyoto Prefecture, Japan

Fukuchiyama extends across 697 square kilometers of land, containing the Yura River and mountainous terrain in the northern region of Kyoto Prefecture.

General Akechi Mitsuhide transformed the area into a thriving castle town in 1579 when he constructed Fukuchiyama Castle as a military stronghold.

The Motoise Naiku shrine represents early Japanese spirituality as one of the original locations where the sun goddess Amaterasu received devotion.

The city connects to major destinations through JR West railway lines, including direct services to Osaka, Kyoto, and the San'in coastal region.

The Railway Museum displays an extensive collection of locomotives, documenting the evolution of rail transport from steam engines to modern trains.
