Demachiyanagi Station, Railway junction in Sakyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan
Demachiyanagi Station is a railway hub in Sakyō-ku that integrates Eizan Railway platforms at ground level and Keihan Railway sections underground. The station has four dead-end platforms on the Eizan side and two tracks on the Keihan side to handle train services.
The Eizan Railway section opened in 1925 and was an important transport hub in the area for many years. The Keihan Railway connection was added in 1989, making this a major transfer point.
The station's name blends two neighborhood names: Demachi from the Kawaramachi-Imadegawa area and Yanagi from the eastern side of the Kamo River.
The station has entrances at both ground level and underground depending on which rail line you need. Knowing which level serves your destination helps you navigate more smoothly when arriving.
The station sits at the junction where the Takano and Kamo rivers meet, a location with distinctive geographical importance. This natural meeting point has shaped how the station serves as a crossing between different areas of the city.
