Surugadai

Surugadai is an administrative district in Chiyoda that contains numerous schools, university buildings, and corporate offices. The area centers around Meiji University's main campus and other educational institutions.

The name came about after Tokugawa Ieyasu's death, when officials from Sunpu were allowed to build residences here. Later, the area developed into a center for education and business in Tokyo.

The area is shaped by university buildings that define its street character today. The mix of academic grounds and office spaces creates a daytime blend of student life and working professionals.

The area is well-served by buses and subways with several access points for visitors. The surrounding neighborhood is relatively flat and makes for easy walking.

The area houses headquarters of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation and several major corporations that shape its daily character. This blend of education and business is relatively unusual for central Tokyo.
