Lake Bogoria

Lake Bogoria spans 32 square kilometers within the Great Rift Valley, featuring geothermally active western shores with numerous geysers and hot springs.

The protected area gained National Reserve status in 1973, following its recognition as a critical habitat for migratory birds and preservation of geological formations.

The Endorois community maintained traditional settlements around Lake Bogoria until the 1970s, when conservation measures led to significant population displacement.

Access to Lake Bogoria National Reserve requires private transportation from the Nakuru-Baringo road through Marigat, with several camping facilities available within the park.

The lake supports extensive populations of lesser flamingos feeding on cyanobacteria, while over 200 hot springs create steam vents along the shoreline.
