Kisumu Museum is a museum in Kisumu, on the Kisumu–Kericho road, opened on 7 April 1980. Its exhibits cover the natural and cultural history of Western Kenya, including material culture from the Western Rift Valley and Nyanza Province, and a full-size reconstruction of a traditional Luo homestead.
A plan to open a museum in Kisumu was announced in 1975, and the Kisumu Museum opened to the public on 7 April 1980. It stands on the Kisumu–Kericho road. Its displays cover the material culture of the western Rift Valley and Nyanza Province and the fauna of the region.
The museum displays a complete Luo homestead with traditional houses, livestock areas, and granaries that show how the community lived. Visitors can observe the layout and design of these structures as they were used daily.
The museum stands on the Kisumu–Kericho highway, so it is reached by road from the city centre. The grounds combine indoor galleries with outdoor sections, among them the full-size Luo homestead, and walking between them takes time on open ground.
