Marsabit National Park, National park and tentative UNESCO site in Eastern Province, Kenya.
The 1,554 square kilometer reserve encompasses volcanic craters, montane forests, and three lakes within an arid landscape in northern Kenya.
The national park, established in 1949, gained recognition in the 1970s for its elephant Ahmed, whose tusks weighed over 300 kilograms.
Local communities maintain traditional practices within the park boundaries, contributing to the preservation of both natural and human heritage.
Visitors can access the park via a 560-kilometer drive north from Nairobi or through the tarmac airstrip near Marsabit town center.
Lake Paradise provides the sole permanent surface water source in the region, supporting 350 bird species and numerous large mammals.
