Cambodia–Vietnam border, International border between Cambodia and Vietnam, Southeast Asia
The boundary between Cambodia and Vietnam runs as a land border from the Laos border in the north to the Gulf of Thailand in the south. Along this border section, several official crossing points exist, with Bavet-Moc Bai being the main gateway between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City.
French colonial officials established the southern border line between Cambodia and French Indochina in 1868 and ratified it two years later. These boundaries emerged during the European colonial period in Southeast Asia.
The border area is home to several ethnic groups from both sides who maintain their local traditions and express their national identities through festivals and daily customs. Walking through the region, you notice how communities celebrate their heritage while respecting their separate nations.
You can cross the border at seven official crossing points that connect both countries. The dry season offers the best conditions for travel, as roads and pathways are in better condition during these months.
The Brevie Line from 1939 divides the maritime waters and islands in the Gulf of Thailand between the two nations. This sea boundary is less known than the land border but determines important resource rights in the region.
