Koryo Songgyungwan University

Koryo Songgyungwan University is a traditional educational institution in Kaesong with buildings designed in classical Korean architectural style, featuring teaching spaces and ceremonial grounds. The layout showcases the typical arrangement of courtyards, pavilions, and halls characteristic of higher learning centers from that era.

The school was founded during the Goryeo Dynasty as a Confucian academy and played an important role in Korean intellectual development. After destruction and reconstruction in the early modern period, it has survived to the present day.

Students at the university study Confucian classics, traditional Korean literature, and philosophical texts that shaped Korean intellectual development through centuries.

Visitors must arrange access in advance, as entry to the grounds is limited and regulated. A guided tour through authorized tour operators is the standard way to experience this site.

This educational facility stands as the sole remaining Goryeo Dynasty academic institution, preserving original teaching methods from the 10th century.
