Wando County

Wando County is a county along South Korea's southern coast made up of several islands spanning about 391 square kilometers. The area includes numerous inhabited and uninhabited island territories marked by a varied coastal landscape.

A general named Jang Bogo founded Cheonghaejin on Wando Island in 828, an important military base during the Unified Silla period. This place was an important trading center and administrative seat for the region at that time.

Local communities here are shaped by their connection to the sea, which shows in regular festivals and the way people grow traditional seafood. These practices are part of daily life and influence how people live and work.

Ferry connections link the main island with smaller territories, while regional buses provide transportation to neighboring districts. The nearest major airport is in Yeosu and is reachable from here.

The region is a major producer of laver seaweed and contributes a large share to national production. This seaweed is grown locally and exported worldwide.
