Aphae Bridge, Road bridge in Mokpo, South Korea.
Aphae Bridge is a road bridge spanning 2.3 kilometers across the Yellow Sea to connect Mokpo mainland with Aphae Island. The structure carries both vehicle and pedestrian traffic and forms part of South Korea's National Route 2.
Construction started in June 2000 and finished in May 2008, marking the arrival of direct land connection to the island. This completion replaced the previous ferry system that had served the route for many years.
The bridge changed how locals move between the island and mainland, ending the need for ferry boats. Today it serves as an ordinary part of daily life for residents and visitors crossing between these two areas.
The bridge provides access throughout the year in all weather conditions and connects to nearby highways. Visitors can cross by vehicle or on foot depending on their preference and planned activities.
Shipbuilding facilities and leisure areas line the route, showing how the project extended beyond simple transport connections. These additions reveal how the bridge became part of broader economic development for the region.
