Gangnam Finance Center, Office skyscraper in Gangnam District, South Korea.
Gangnam Finance Center is an office tower in Gangnam District, Seoul, standing 204 meters tall with 45 floors above ground and a glass-and-steel facade. It sits along Teheran-ro, the main boulevard of the district, surrounded by other high-rise office buildings of similar scale.
The building was completed in 2001, during a period when the Gangnam area was rapidly developing into Seoul's main business corridor. The Teheran-ro boulevard around it grew into a concentration of large company headquarters through the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The area around the tower is known in Korea as a symbol of wealth and modern urban life, and the streets nearby reflect that image with upscale cafes and offices. Workers stream in and out at lunch hour, giving the block a rhythm that feels distinctly corporate Seoul.
The tower is a short walk from Yeoksam subway station, making it easy to reach by public transit from most parts of Seoul. Since it is an active office building, visitors without a business appointment can generally only access the ground-floor lobby area.
The boulevard where the tower stands, Teheran-ro, got its name from a 1977 sister-city agreement between Seoul and Tehran, a connection that most passersby never notice. The name is right there on the street signs, linking one of Seoul's most corporate streets to a city on the other side of the world.
