Dosan Park, Memorial park in Gangnam District, South Korea
Dosan Park is a memorial park in the Gangnam District of Seoul, dedicated to independence activist Ahn Chang-ho, with winding paths, ponds, and planted gardens spread across its grounds. The park also contains a memorial hall with exhibition rooms that document the life and work of the person it honors.
The park opened in 1973 as a memorial to Ahn Chang-ho, one of the leading figures of the Korean independence movement against Japanese colonial rule. His remains were later brought back to Korea from China and buried on the grounds.
The park takes its name from "Dosan," the pen name of independence activist Ahn Chang-ho, and his tomb along with that of his wife is located within the grounds. Visitors often pause at the grave site, which sits quietly among the trees near the memorial hall.
The park sits within walking distance of Apgujeong Station and Apgujeongrodeo Station, making it easy to reach on foot from the subway. If you want to visit the memorial hall inside, check its opening hours in advance, as the building is not always open.
Ahn Chang-ho founded one of Korea's first modern civic education organizations in the early 1900s, and the memorial hall preserves some documents from that period. Visitors who take time to read through the exhibition often find a side of Korean history that goes beyond the independence struggle.
