Jamsu Bridge, Road bridge in Seocho district, Seoul, South Korea
Jamsu Bridge is a road bridge spanning the Han River in Seoul, connecting two districts with vehicle lanes and pedestrian paths. The structure bears witness to urban development, as another bridge was later constructed above it, creating a distinctive two-level river crossing.
The bridge was built in 1976 as part of Seoul's expanding infrastructure. Within a few years, an additional bridge was constructed directly above it, creating an unusual layered crossing over the river.
The bridge becomes a gathering space during seasonal events, with local markets and food vendors setting up along its pedestrian walkways. Visitors witness everyday city life as people gather to shop and eat together.
Visitors can walk across or rent bicycles from the nearby park to cross the bridge. The experience is most pleasant outside rush hours, when the crossing is less crowded and easier to navigate.
During heavy rainfall, the bridge can partially submerge beneath the rising Han River waters. This unusual phenomenon causes temporary closures and shows how the city adapts to natural water level changes.
