Dongjak Bridge, Road bridge in Seoul, South Korea
Dongjak Bridge is a blue truss structure that spans the Han River and carries vehicle traffic along with Seoul Subway Line 4 below its deck. The bridge joins two major districts on opposite sides of the river.
Construction began in late 1978 and the bridge opened to traffic in 1984, becoming the eleventh crossing of the Han River at that location. The project represented an important phase of the city's expansion during that decade.
The areas adjacent to the bridge are defined by major public institutions that shape how locals and visitors move through and experience this part of the city.
The bridge is open for both vehicle and pedestrian use with safe crossing paths available for walkers. Peak traffic hours can be crowded, so quieter times during the day offer a better experience for those exploring the structure.
The bridge was the first in Korea to employ a special steel design combining arch and truss principles in its structural system. This engineering solution was innovative for the region when the bridge was built.
