Dongjak Bridge, Road bridge in Seoul, South Korea
Dongjak Bridge is a road bridge over the Han River in Seoul, South Korea, connecting two districts on opposite banks. It carries vehicle traffic on its deck and Seoul Subway Line 4 runs along its lower section.
Construction started in the late 1970s and the bridge opened in 1984, making it the eleventh crossing built over the Han River. It was part of a period of rapid growth when Seoul was expanding its road network south of the river.
The areas adjacent to the bridge are defined by major public institutions that shape how locals and visitors move through and experience this part of the city.
The bridge has walkways on both sides, so crossing on foot is possible at any time. For a less busy experience, morning hours or early evening tend to be quieter than midday or rush hour.
Dongjak Bridge was the first in Korea to use a steel structure combining arch and truss principles in the same design. This approach was not common in the country when the bridge was completed in 1984.
