Supyogyo, Stone bridge in Jangchung-dong, South Korea.
Supyogyo is a stone bridge that crosses Cheonggyecheon stream and displays traditional construction methods from its era. It measures approximately 28 meters long and 8 meters wide.
The bridge was built in 1420 under King Sejong and received its current name in 1441 when water measurement instruments were installed. It was originally known as Majeongyo.
The bridge earned its name from its role as a water measurement station, allowing people to understand and respond to flood warnings based on marked stone gauges.
The bridge now stands within Jangjungdan Park and can be easily visited by walking through the park grounds. The best approach is to enter the park directly from the stream-level access points.
The bridge contained a measurement system with stone markers in cheok units that triggered official alerts when water levels exceeded nine cheok during floods. This system was an early form of flood management in the region.
