Kyzylorda Region, Administrative region in southern Kazakhstan
The Kyzylorda Region extends across 226,000 square kilometers, containing the Syr Darya River, multiple lakes, and sections of the Lesser Barsuki desert.
The region underwent multiple name changes, from Akmolinsk to Karaganda, before becoming Kyzylorda, serving as Kazakhstan's capital from 1925 to 1927.
The population of 803,531 residents maintains Kazakh traditions through music performances, oral storytelling, and traditional marketplaces across seven administrative districts.
The region connects to major Kazakh cities through established road and rail networks, with the city of Kyzylorda functioning as the primary transportation hub.
The Baikonur Cosmodrome, located within the region's borders, operates under Russian administration despite being situated in Kazakh territory.
