Lake Jasybay, Mountain lake in Bayanaul National Park, Kazakhstan
Lake Jasybay is situated in the Bayanaul mountain range and measures roughly 3.5 kilometers long and 2.4 kilometers wide with depths reaching about 15 meters at its deepest point. The water is surrounded by rocky hills that form natural ridges and slopes around the shoreline.
The lake was originally called Shoyynkol before taking the name of a Kazakh warrior who perished in battle on its shores in 1752. This naming change marked a shift in how the place was remembered and spoken about by the people of the region.
The lake holds meaning for Kazakh people through stories and legends that have been passed down about local heroes and their connection to this land.
Visitors can reach the site by taking a train to Ekibastuz city and then catching a bus heading toward Bayanaul village in the north. The warmest and most accessible months are from May through September when weather conditions support outdoor activities.
The lake contains a central island shaped like a heart, which locals once called the Island of Love. This natural feature has become a memorable detail that stays with visitors long after they leave.
