Zhongar-Alatau National Park

The protected area extends over 356,022 hectares across the northern slopes of Zhetysu-Alatau mountains, featuring steep canyons and numerous glacial streams.

The national park received its protected status on April 30, 2010, becoming the most recent addition to Kazakhstan's network of national parks.

Archaeological discoveries within the park include Scythian burial grounds, ancient petroglyphs, and remains of a medieval settlement with a temple complex.

The park maintains seven marked tourist routes that lead visitors through forests, mountains, and glaciers, with access points from Aksu, Sarkand, and Alakol districts.

The territory contains wild Sievers Apple trees, covering one percent of the park's area, representing the genetic source of all cultivated apple varieties worldwide.
