The Tarbagatai National Park extends across 143,550 hectares, incorporating southern mountain slopes, steppe grasslands, and three major river basins in eastern Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh government established Tarbagatai National Park on June 27, 2018, as the thirteenth national park in Kazakhstan to preserve natural resources.
The territory contains locations of traditional significance to local communities, who maintained nomadic practices and sustainable land management through generations.
The park divides into four zones with different access levels, requiring visitors to obtain permits for entering conservation areas while allowing tourism in designated sections.
The protected area harbors 167 endemic plant species and 40 rare vertebrate species listed in Kazakhstan's Red Book, including the native Urzhar Oporto apple variety.
