Lebanese University, Lebanese public university
Lebanese University is a public university in Baabda, a town just southeast of Beirut, offering undergraduate and graduate programs across a wide range of fields. The campus is made up of academic buildings, administrative offices, and open spaces distributed across a fairly large site.
The university was founded in 1951, making it one of the first modern institutions of higher education in Lebanon. Over the following decades it grew into the country's main public higher education institution.
The university is one of the few public institutions in Lebanon where students from very different communities study together without the religious or social sorting common elsewhere. This mix shapes the daily feel of the campus in a way that is easy to notice just by walking through it.
Starting from the main entrance in Baabda helps with orientation since the different parts of the campus are not always close to each other. Checking in advance where a specific building is located will save time once you arrive.
Although the university serves students from across Lebanon and beyond, it does not operate a central residential campus, which means students are woven into the everyday life of Baabda rather than living in a self-contained bubble. This makes the boundary between the university and the town around it unusually porous.
