Udawalawe National Park, National park in Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka.

The 30,821-hectare park contains grasslands, scrublands, open forests, and the Udawalawe Reservoir, supporting numerous wildlife species throughout its diverse landscape.

The national park, established in 1972, emerged as a sanctuary following the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir, replacing areas previously used for traditional chena farming.

The park maintains strong connections with local communities through educational programs and sustainable tourism initiatives that support regional economic development.

Foreign visitors pay entrance fees of 25 dollars during peak season and 20 dollars off-peak, with safari tours ranging from three hours to full-day experiences.

The resident population of 250 Asian elephants makes this park one of Sri Lanka's primary locations for observing these mammals in their natural environment.
