Madunagala Hot Water Springs

Madunagala is a facility with several connected pools where water flows continuously, creating bathing areas at different temperatures throughout. This design allows visitors to adjust gradually to warmer waters as they move between the pools.

The hot water has served local communities for many generations, with traditional beliefs attributing healing powers to the mineral-rich waters. Knowledge of these healing springs is rooted in long-standing local practices.

Local people visit to bathe and experience what they consider healing benefits from the mineral water, viewing the springs as a remedy for skin troubles and physical discomfort. For many, it remains a place where wellness and tradition come together.

Bring a towel and use the provided buckets for bathing, as the facility offers separate changing areas for men and women. Arriving early in the day means fewer visitors and a more comfortable bathing experience.

The spring water emerges from deep geological fissures, reaching about 50 degrees Celsius in the main source pool. This extreme heat comes from natural geothermal processes happening far beneath the surface.
