St. Lucia's Cathedral, Renaissance cathedral in Kotahena, Sri Lanka
The cathedral features massive Ionic columns, white marble altars, and intricate stained glass windows that illuminate the interior with natural light.
Originally built as a small wooden chapel in 1760 during Dutch occupation, the current building was completed in 1887 and officially opened in 1902.
The cathedral contains seven statues of saints along its side aisles and serves as the main seat for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Colombo.
Visitors can access the cathedral from 5:30 AM to noon and 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with regular masses conducted throughout the week.
The cathedral houses a 4,300-pound bell named Anthony Thomas, shipped from France and decorated with religious symbols and floral wreaths.
