Kandy Lake

Kandy Lake is an artificial water reservoir with a rounded shape that stretches across the city, creating a focal point surrounded by green spaces and historic buildings. The water's edge features accessible pathways that allow visitors to walk all the way around and take in the surroundings.

The area was originally rice paddies but was transformed into the present lake in the early 1800s under royal leadership. This transformation reshaped the landscape and created a new center point for the city.

The Temple of the Tooth is located right beside the lake, making this a sacred destination where visitors come to experience the spiritual atmosphere of the area. The water itself has become a gathering place where locals and tourists pause to reflect and enjoy the views together.

A maintained path runs all the way around the lake, connecting different points and making the shoreline easy to access. Walking or cycling around the lake at your own pace is the best way to discover the different areas and viewpoints.

Along the north side of the lake stands an unfinished stone wall that has been preserved as a historical landmark. This wall was never completed because events in the 1800s interrupted the work, and it now tells a quiet story of abandoned plans.
