Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya, Buddhist temple on Bahirawakanda Hill, Kandy, Sri Lanka
The temple features a 27-meter-tall white Buddha statue in meditation position, visible from multiple locations throughout the city of Kandy.
Construction of the temple began in 1972 after Minister Hector Kobbekaduwa donated the land to monk Ven. Ampitiye Dammarama Thero of Amarapura Nikaya.
The temple serves as a meditation center where Buddhist practitioners gather daily to perform rituals and study ancient religious texts.
Visitors must remove shoes at the entrance kiosk and wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees when entering the temple grounds.
From the viewing platform behind the Buddha statue, guests can observe a panoramic vista of Kandy city and the surrounding mountains.
