Empire Hotel, Kandy

The Empire Hotel occupies a Victorian building with three white stone arches and an open verandah adorned with cast iron balustrades at Temple Street.

Built in 1857 as a coffee factory, the structure transformed into the Empire Hotel on December 28, 1898, under the ownership of the Fernando family.

The hotel stands near the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, offering guests direct access to Sri Lankan religious and traditional experiences.

The establishment contains 14 rooms with shared bathrooms and includes a street-facing café on the ground floor serving local refreshments.

The first-floor wooden floorboards, supported by original timber beams, provide direct views across the waters of Kandy Lake.
