Suisse Hotel

Suisse Hotel is a colonial building beside Kandy Lake with 90 rooms furnished in wood, floral fabrics, and traditional architectural details. The rooms feature these elements throughout, creating a consistent historical feeling.

The building was constructed in the 17th century as a residence for the Chief Minister of the Royal Granary. In 1924, it became Hotel Suisse under Swiss owner Jeanne Louisa Burdayron.

The building displays Sri Lankan colonial style through high ceilings, wood details, and traditional patterns on its walls. These design elements reflect local architectural heritage and shape how the rooms feel throughout.

The building sits near the lake and is easy to explore on foot. The lodging offers parking, WiFi, an outdoor pool, and a restaurant with Western and Asian dishes.

During World War II from 1944 to 1945, the building served as headquarters for the South East Asia Command under Lord Louis Mountbatten. This period was a significant moment in regional war history.
